Houdini Stop - Crash Test Results

Objective and Intent:

To conduct crash testing using the Houdini Stop and observe its performance during these tests with regard to their affects on the injury criteria measured.

Methodology and Test Protocol regarding the car seat chest strap:

No New Zealand or Australian federal regulations exist that govern the Houdini Stop.

However, deceleration pulse and test setup as per AS/NZS 1754 (frontal impact) was utilised to determine their performance in their intended use circumstances. Crash tests were designed to utilise the Houdini Stop in their installed positions.

The Houdini Stop was tested with a forward-facing child car seat with a 5 point harness and with a booster seat with an H harness.

Crash tests were conducted in accordance with the standard protocol. Measurements were recorded to validate the testing parameters and results.

In addition to the numerical measurements recorded and measured for these tests, visual observations were also conducted on the Houdini Stop to determine what effect if any, their performance may have on the seat belt webbing, CRS, or the injury criteria for the dummies used in the tests.

Overall Conclusions regarding the car seat chest clip:

The Houdini Stop car seat chest clip did not interfere with the performance of the CRS, the vehicle seat belt system, any other part of the child car seat, vehicle seat or the dummies used in the tests.

The Houdini Stop car seat chest strap plastic clips remained securely affixed during the tests. The Houdini Stop moved down the restraints during impact and did not produce any detrimental effects on the seat belt webbing, CRS or dummies used in any of the tests.

One side of the Houdini Stop car seat chest clip webbing became unstitched upon impact during the H harness test and remained affixed to the CRS.

There was no dummy throat contact with the Houdini Stop during the tests.

The Houdini Stop had no negative effect on any part of the child car seats, CRS, seat belt webbing, dummies or vehicle seats in any of the tests.
